Title: Dancing with the Stars By
Justin Pfeifer and Jared Rack
On Friday November 20, Leo Dorzweiler and his
wife came to HFE to teach the students how to dance the polka.
His mother taught him how to dance at the age of six, and he
said he dances all day as long as his eyes are open. Leo met his
wife at a polka dance. He said his favorite song is the
“Cattleman’s Polka.” He said that our polka music didn’t
originate in Germany
but he believes that it started in Russia. He said that Argentina and Brazil have the same polka music.
When he came to the
U.S., he didn’t know a word of
English. He wasn’t the only one who knew German. Katie and Nate
Walters can “winch” in German.
Leo runs the Oktoberfest and said the hardest
part of being in charge is finding volunteers.
If you are interested in learning to dance
the polka, they teach it at the HRC.
Polka lovers will be happy to know that the
polka mass is during the Oktoberfest and is at St. Fedelis in
Victoria.
