Title: Fun Times on the Farm
Authors: Taylor Regier and Katelyn Zimmerman
On Sept. 9th , the fifth graders
headed out to the Kraus Farm where they played games and learned
about farming safety. When they got there, it was a windy and
misty day. But this didn’t hold them up. It was off to the
nature walk. They went the an old swimming pool , which is now a
lake. They learned how to whistle through a leaf. They caught
dragonflies and looked at the most beautiful flowers. They got
to see where the seeds of a sunflower originate.
They played “Water Jeopardy.”
It is just like Jeopardy, but the game concerns water.
Next, they played “Wow That Cow.” This is a game that teaches
kids how you can use cows. For example, they can be made for
band aids, tires, and glue. Then they learned about farming
safety. They learned that you shouldn’t stand on a tractor when
it’s running. They went to a wheat farm. They learned how to
water and plant crops. Finally, came lunch. Refreshed, they went
to a water simulator. They learned how to water crops. Last, but
not least, they went to look at farming equipment. They saw
tractors, combines, and bailers. Sadly, it was time to go. They
all agreed they had lots of fun. Everyone said the nature walk
was the best part. They wished they could come back next year.
