Pumpkin Patch
By Meagan Brin and Taryn Rupp

“Preschool and kindergarten went to the pumpkin patch, the pumpkin patch, the pumpkin patch, preschool and kindergarten went to the pumpkin patch, called Cottage Lane.”

The preschool and kindergarten classes took a bus to the Cottage Lane Pumpkin Patch. Some kids thought it was fun riding without seatbelts, others thought it was unsafe. When they arrived, they wandered their way through a cornfield maze, hurdled hay bales, and slid down a slide. The teachers said they went over the hay bales and down the slide over and over again while parents stood closely by for any unsteady children. Not everyone got to go on the slide because it started pouring. After the rain stopped, they got to see some chickens and bunnies and pet the goats. They also went inside a dark tunnel. When they looked up at the ceiling, there were tiny holes that looked like stars. Then, they rode on hay bales on a trailer that was pulled by a tractor to the pumpkin patch. When they got to the pumpkin patch, they picked their very own pumpkins, but only the small pie ones.

Many kids have already painted or carved their pumpkins and set them out for Halloween. The pumpkin pickers finished up the day with some delicious, warm apple cider. “My favorite thing was riding the tractor [hayrack ride] and picking pumpkins,” said most kids. Others liked the slide the most. No doubt everyone found something that made it an enjoyable field trip.
