Kojack Returns
By: Alison Schibi & Heather Befort

On October 27th, Officer Gibson came to Holy Family with Kojack, the drug dog. Kojack is six years old. Did you know a dog’s sense of smell is 50 times stronger than humans? Kojack was bred and trained in Europe to sniff out drugs. Officer Gibson has had Kojack for 3 years. It took ten weeks to train Kojack, and they still have to train him every week! We learned that if there is a drug odor on another dog or person, he would just try to scratch. We also learned that everyday about 50 cars driving past Hays on interstate have drugs in them! Officer Gibson said that they catch about 3% of those cars. Did you know they caught a person with a drug worth $13 million called Ecstasy? Kojack cost $7,000, but he is worth it. He can continue to sniff out drugs until he is about 10 years old.
