Fort Hays Chemistry Club
By Morgan Choitz

I can positively say everyone had a great time at the chemistry presentation by the Fort Hays Chemistry Club. They first made a styrofoam cup disappear! The crowd liked it so much, they did it twice! Next, they used dry ice and made fog! They made a bubble soap mixture and made a bubble over the fog mixture. Next, they put a leaf in liquid nitrogen, took it out, and it turned into solid ice! They also put a balloon in the liquid nitrogen, and it deflated! They put dish soap and hydrogen peroxide, passive iodine, and mixed all together to make a huge amount of foam! Calcium, ethanol, and water together make a solid! They showed us how to crush a can without touching it. They started a towel on fire with prothenal on it.  They put it in the water, and still it wasn’t burnt! The team then made a substance that glows. Finally, the team lit a snowball on fire and tossed it to each other like a hot potato! Magic, tricks, or just plain chemistry? It sure had all of us fascinated!
