School News

Principal Jana Simon writes a school newsletter each month to update parents and students on current events.  You can contact her via e-mail at jsimon@hfehays.org.

 RSS Feeds

Holy Family Elementary School has recently launched a news and information RSS Feed.  As a parent or benefactor, you can subscribe to the feed.  By doing so, you will be automatically informed, by your feed reader, web browser, or e-mail client, when a new article is published to the feed.  This is a great way to keep up-to-date on school activities and events.

What is a RSS Feed?

RSS (most commonly translated as "Really Simple Syndication" but sometimes "Rich Site Summary") is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format, (http://en.wikipedia.org).

So how do I get started?

Add an RSS Feed using Microsoft Outlook 2007 E-mail Client

Add an RSS Feed through the Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Account Settings dialog box

  1. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
  2. On the RSS Feeds tab, click New.
  3. In the New RSS Feed dialog box, type or press CTRL+V to paste the URL of the RSS Feed. For example, http://www.hfehays.org/news.xml
  4. Click Add.
  5. Click OK.

Use a free Feed Demon Feed Reader for Windows XP, Vista, or 7

  1. Download Feed Demon (http://www.bradsoft.com/feeddemon/beta/)

  2. Install the program.

  3. Click Ad subscription, and enter http://www.hfehays.org/news.xml

  4. Select TOOLS from the menu bar, and OPTIONS from the drop-down menu.

  5. In the option box, select the GENERAL TAB, check "Start FeedDemon when Windows starts".  This will make sure the program is running.

  6. Next, select the DESKTOP ALERT tab.  Check "Always" show feed demon in system tray.

  7. then Check "Minimize to system tray instead of closing".  This will keep the program active.

Use MAC's mail program to view RSS Feeds
