Maintenance Committees

Building Planning / Space Renovation

Chairperson: Stephen Brummer | Parent Volunteer | sbrummer@mwenergy.com

Committee: Chris Brull, Karen Bieker, Teresa Schrant, and appointed members.

Organization: The committee members are appointed by Father Kevin Weber.  The committee consists of members with specialized skills in construction and building code.  This committee reports to the School Advisory Executive Council.

Responsibilities: The purpose of this sub-committee to is to plan and develop recommendations for future building expansion and renovation, (including the current IHM worship space). 

Facilities Maintenance & Grounds

Chairperson: Chris Brull | School Advisory Vice-President | kujhawk94@mac.com 

Committee: Karen Bieker, Teresa Schrant, and volunteer parents.  The committee reports to the School Advisory Executive Council.

Organization: The committee members consist of school advisory chairperson, school maintenance director, faculty members, and volunteer parents. This committee reports to the School Advisory Executive Council.

Responsibilities: Provide insight and advice on building maintenance and grounds.  Ensure that HFE facilities are up to code, complete annual building inspections, recommend building and ground improvements or beautification, and assists in the handling of safety and security concerns.   

Green School Committee

Committee: Shirley Dinkel, Tyler Haas, Teresa Schrant and volunteer parents. 

Organization:  The committee consists of HFE faculty members and volunteer parents.  The committee reports to the School Advisory Executive Council.

Responsibilities: Implementing "green school" programs, environmental projects, recycling program, and educational activities and resources.  

Playground Committee

Organization: The committee consists of volunteer parents. The committee reports to the School Advisory Executive Council.

Responsibilities: Ensure that the HFE/IHM playground facilities are up to code, oversee equipment inspections, recommend improvements, and assists in the handling of safety and security concerns related to the playground.

Computer and Network Support

Responsibilities:  Provide technical support; including computer hardware and software, networking, e-mail, internet access, and security.              

E-mail Distribution System

Responsibilities:  Develop and maintain various e-mail distribution list; including school-wide, classroom, and sub-committee communication lists.

Web Development

Responsibilities:  Create and maintain a well designed website.  Review material and post approved information online.  Investigate new technologies and improve upon existing website.

General Education Intervention Team (GEIT)

Committee: Ann Weber, Theresa Flax, Gloria McCormick, and Karen Wasinger

Organization: The committee consists of the school administrator and appointed faculty members.

Responsibilities:  The committee’s purpose is to support and assist faculty in helping students overcome academic challenges they face in the classroom.  The committee works in conjunction and collaborates with faculty members in an effort to provide the best academic environment and opportunities for student learning.

Geography  & Spelling Bees

Organization:  The committee consists of HFE faculty members. 

Responsibilities:  Compiling the questions or word lists, and conducting the actual bees.

School Curriculum Mapping

Committee: Jennnie Helget, Ann Weber, Marcia Dinkel

Organization: The chairperson is appointed by the School Administrator.  The committee consists of HFE faculty members.

Responsibilities:  Establish educational goals for Holy Family Elementary, consistent with the requirements of the Salina Diocese, the law, and the statewide goals and standards established by the Board of Education.  Provide insight and advice on major adoptions or revisions of curriculum and textbooks.  Establish and periodically review educational goals for Holy Family Elementary.  Work to develop a comprehensive text book replacement plan and provide recommendations to the policy/bylaws committee on school curriculum policies.       

Nutrition & Wellness

Organization: The chairpersons are appointed by the School Administrator.  The committee consists of HFE faculty members.

Responsibilities:  Promote health education, physical education, nutrition services, and ensuring a healthy school environment.  Work in conjunction with the principal, food services, and physical education coordinator to ensure school health and wellness.  This would include adopting a school wellness policy, and promotion of programs to create a healthier school environment.     

NCA Steering Committee

Organization: The chairperson is appointed by the School Administrator.  The committee consists of members of HFE faculty.

Responsibilities:  The committee finalized NCA Accreditation in 2008.  The committee will continue to review the accreditation criteria and recommend activities that should be undertaken.

Professional Development Council

Committee: Ruth Ann Fry and Cindy Washburn

Organization: School Administrator and appointed faculty members.

Responsibilities: The Professional Development Committee reviews the professional development needs of the school faculty, recommends new initiatives, and monitors the ongoing local advancement opportunities.


Student Life Committees

Bully Prevention

Chairperson: Jana Simon | School Administrator | jsimon@hfehays.org

Current Committee: Paula Beck (Faculty), Theresa Flax (Faculty), Janice Collins (Faculty), and HFE Students.

Organization: The committee consists of HFE faculty members and students. 

Responsibilities:  The bully prevention program is a universal intervention for the reduction and prevention of school bullying problems. The main arena for the program is within the school, and school staff and upper grade have the task of implementing the program.

Catholic Schools Week

Chairperson: Lori Flax | Faculty | lflax@hfehays.org

Committee: Cindy Washburn, Brenda Stoecklein, Paula Huser, and Jana Simon.

Organization: The committee consists of HFE faculty members.

Responsibilities:  The committee is responsible for planning, promoting, and advertising catholic school week activities and special celebrations.

Dominic Savio Club

Organization:  The committee consists of students in the 6th grade

Responsibilities:  Dominic Savio is a service/spiritual club designed to enhance the 6th grade religious education program.  Its members will operate a concession stand three times a month for the purpose of dispersing the profits to the poor and worthy organizations. Additionally, four additional fundraisers are conducted throughout the year. The 4th week students will conduct a Savio meeting and do a service project such as visiting the elderly or helping with Tiger Tots. 

Homecoming Float Committee

Organization:  The committee consists of HFE faculty members and volunteer parents. 

Responsibilities:  The committee prepares the float for the TMP Homecoming Parade.  If you are interested in providing a pickup, trailer, labors, or monetary resources to assist in the project, please contact Karen Bieker.  Volunteers are welcome!

Liturgical Planning

Chairperson: Sherrill Ruda | Office Manager | sruda@hfehays.org

Responsibilities:  Prepares the class liturgical celebration schedule, and assists with the coordination of special celebrations, (i.e.: Thanksgiving, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Ash Wednesday, Father's and Mother's Mass). 

Mary's Baby Shower

Organization:  The committee consists of HFE faculty members. 

Responsibilities:  Chairpersons prepare and send out invitation for Mary’s Baby Shower benefiting Birthright of Hays.  Coordinate cake, punch, decorations, and set-up the day of the shower.  Contact volunteers to serve at the shower, and oversee clean-up and delivery of gifts to Birthright.

Red Ribbon / Drug Awareness

Committee: Chris Dinkel, Kim Simon, Jennifer Werth, and Amadee Staab

Organization:  The committee consists of HFE faculty members. 

Responsibilities:  Communities and Schools nationwide join together to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse by wearing a red ribbon the week of October 23rd to 31st.  The committee focus on drug awareness and education.

Student Recognition - Trophy Case

Wal-Mart Bulletin Board

Responsibilities:  This committee oversees the Holy Family Elementary School bulletin board located at Wal-Mart in Hays, Kansas./p


School Funding Committees

Linked in Christ Campaign

Responsibilities:  “Linked In Christ” is a voluntary capital campaign for Holy Family Elementary School.  The program is designed to help offset budget deficits.  Contributing families agree to donate $10 or more on a weekly basis.  All contribution should be sent directly to the school office.  The monies generated will be deposited into the Holy Family account, and are to be used at the discretion of the School Principal.  The committee’s responsibilities are to promote the program, provide quarterly updates, and to assist the office staff with database management and annual statements.         

Chili Supper

Organization: The committee consists of members of the School Advisory Council, Home and School Committee, HFE faculty members, and volunteer parents. 

Responsibilities:  The chairperson plans, coordinates, and oversees the annual Chili Supper.  In addition, they contact and coordinate volunteer support.  Volunteers help with the event, including baking desserts, preparing and serving the meal, and assisting with clean up, games, and other activities.   The Chili Supper is always scheduled on Sunday at the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. 

Race for Education

Organization: The committee consists of members of the volunteer parents.

Responsibilities:  Chairperson's coordinate all aspects of the spring fundraiser.  Volunteers assist in putting together family packets, completing and sending mailers, recording donations, help with race day. 

Red Wheel

Organization: The committee consists of members of the School Advisory Council, Home and School Committee, HFE faculty members, and volunteer parents. 

Responsibilities:  Coordinate all aspects of the fall fundraiser.  Assist in completing total of orders to Red Wheel. Assist on delivery day by bagging orders, totaling orders, and clean up.  

SWIPE Point-of-Sale Program

Responsibilities:  The SWIPE program is a credit card point-of-sale program that generates revenue for teacher bonuses.  This program is operated by Galen Romme. 


Communications Committee

Organization: The committee consists of members of the School Advisory Council and Home and School Committee.  The Co-Chairs work directly with the HFE Principal and office staff. 

Responsibilities:    This committee works in conjunction with all other school committees, administration, and office staff.  The committee’s priorities are to improve communication between the school and parents and the school and the community. Committee members assist with advertising, brochures, newsletters, newspaper advertisements, and organize information for Catholic Schools Week, Chili Supper, Red Wheel Pizza Sales and other special events for students.  All public communication must be approved by the School Principal.

Photography & School Yearbook

Organization: The committee consists of parent volunteers. 

Responsibilities:  The committee members will periodically take pictures of students in the classroom and at school sponsored events and field trips.  The committee will produce a school yearbook, and also work in conjunction with the website sub-committee in an effort to promote school events and activities.

Family Support

Responsibilities:  The committee consists of members of volunteer parents.  The committee chairperson is responsible for contacting and organizing support.  Committee members provide meals for families during times of joy and sorrow.       

Lunch Room Volunteers

Responsibilities:  The committee consists of parent volunteers.  The committee chairperson is responsible for contacting and organizing the lunch room volunteer schedule.  Committee members primary responsibility is to assist the lunchroom staff in serving meals.

Responsibilities:  A representative of School Advisory Council organizes and plans the annual Christmas Teacher Appreciation Dinner.  Members of the School Advisory Council and Home & School Executive Committee work together the day of event, including setup, cooking, and clean up.  Parent Volunteer also support the event by providing baked goods, etc.

Organization: Home & School Executive Committee 

Responsibilities:  A representative of Home & School Executive Committee outlines the letter to parents to solicit funds for the annual faculty and staff Christmas Fund.  The Home & School Executive treasurer collects all proceeds, and the gifts are distributed by the School Administrator at the Christmas Appreciation Dinner. 

Snack / Bake Committee

Responsibilities:  Committee members prepares snack foods or baked goods as needed for school events.  The committee chair is responsible for contacting sub-committee members, organizing appropriate snack food or baked goods for events, and making arrangement for delivery.


Classroom Support Committees

Lead Parent Program

Responsibilities:  The primary purpose of a lead parents, is to act as a communication officer and organize parent volunteer support.  In particular, the lead parent will work closely with their respective classroom teacher to coordinate parent volunteer support for classroom activities, field trips, testing, etc.  The lead parent will have access to the classroom listserv, and be given a list of telephone numbers.  The following is the list of lead parents

Classroom Helping Hands

Chairperson: Each classroom will be assigned “lead parents”.  The lead parent will oversee the helping hand program.

Responsibilities:  Parent who volunteer for the helping hands program will work closely with the classroom lead parent and assist them with tasks that will benefit classroom, including classroom activites, providing resources and material, etc.  Hence the term “helping hands”. 


Booster Club Committees

HFE Bucks / Box Top and Labels

Organization: The committee consists of volunteer parents. 

Responsibilities:  Work to promote the collection of Box Tops for Education, Tyson Labels and Campbell Soups labels, coordinate monthly contest to encourage collecting labels.  Maintain Scrip inventory, including accounting, promote Scrip and hold monthly contest to encourage purchasing Scrip.  All Scrip funds are directly donated to the school.

Collecting box top and labels

Holy Family Elementary collects Box Tops for Education, Campbell's product labels (bar codes) and Tyson Labels for Education.  We also collect pennies, recycle aluminum cans, and printer cartridges.  Please bring to the school office.

HFE Bucks (SCRIP)

HFE Bucks (SCRIP) certificates and trash bags are available through the school office.  If you are interested in using HFE Bucks, please download the order order Form.

 

Home & School Booster Funds
