By Taryn Stauth
Continents, countries, cities, oh my! The Geography Bee
is a fun and educational experience! The contestants
worked hard to prepare. One contestant said, “It was
kind of challenging, but we learned a lot!” The
Geography Bee consisted of categories like deserts,
oceans, continents and countries. The Geography Bee is
an experience like no other! In third place was Dylan
Tabor, 6B, Michael Braun, 6C, pulled out with second,
and last but not least, the first place winner was Kaleb
Hagans in fifth grade. The Geography Bee is a great
experience with fun outcomes!
Bullying Prevention Skits
By: Ashtyn Toepfer & Julia Hess
During Catholic Schools Week, the anti-bullying
representatives performed skits to show the different
ways we bully people. The skits reminded everyone that
bullying is wrong and can really hurt people. They did
scenes like inviting everyone to a birthday party except
one girl, which is excluding. Also they pushed a kid
down and made fun of him. From these skits we learned
not to bully and to respect each other. These skits
remind us if we ever see bullying or get bullied to go
talk to an adult about it. We believe this will help
prevent bullying at school and make it a better place.
The
TMP Play, “Hello Dolly”
By Jacob Walters and Josh Heimerman
Holy Family went to the TMP play
called “Hello Dolly.” There were three scenes: a store,
the Dress Shop, and the fancy restaurant. This play was
basically about Dolly trying to marry a rich, handsome
man. There were two desperate men going to New York City
to have a good time with girls. The two workers meet a
couple of ladies, and they soon learn how to dance and
enjoyed it. The play also had wonderful music with
instruments like the snare drum, piano, trumpet, and
more. The play had a lot of comedy and everyone enjoyed
it as the audience sat back and relaxed. But it wasn’t
all teenagers acting. They also had middle schoolers and
elementary kids in the play. They had an excellent
dancing performance. All in all, it was a very
entertaining afternoon that was enjoyed by everyone.
Kansas Day
By Adam Gottschalk & Tate Garcia
Kansas Day is a very special day for our state. This
year, Kansas is 151 years old. Aaron Fowler came to our
school to help us celebrate it this year. We asked Kade
Urban, Ethan Lang, and Dylan Werth, who are all from 5A,
what they thought of the presentation. Kade Urban liked
it because it was kind of funny. Dylan Werth and Ethan
Lang liked it when Aaron sang “Follow the Drinking
Gourd.’’ He made Kansas Day the best.
Mass and Going to TMP
By Dylan Tabor
Catholic School’s Week was so entertaining. I think the
most newsworthy event was TMP and St.Mary’s of Ellis
coming to our school for Mass. Later, we loaded the
busses to head over to TMP. While there, we were amused
by the “Pop Singers” performing, “Paint it Broadway.”
Then we had a fantastic lunch. We also enjoyed many
activities in the classrooms. Finally, it was 1:15 and
time to depart from TMP and come back to HFE. Catholic
School’s Week 2011-2012 was something we’ll never
forget.
