SAFETY & SECURITY

At Holy Family Elementary, we take the responsibility of protecting our students, faculty & staff, as it pertains to safety & security, very seriously. We have made great strides in updating our safety & crisis needs over the years. We continually audit our building & grounds and policies & procedures, while monitoring safety trends to see how and where we can improve. We are always on the lookout for new and innovative solutions to keep our school safe and secure.

Our perimeter doors are secured during the school day and visitors & guests must be allowed entry via our ring doorbell and fingerprint system. All visitors & guests are required to check in with the office upon entry & exit of the building.

Security cameras monitor our main entrances/exits, hallways, Gym, Little Theater, Activity Center, and playground.

Each room within our building is supplied with an emergency backpack & a crisis kit, which are reviewed, restocked, and updated annually.

Faculty & staff are trained to communicate through our phone system, cell phones, google documents, and two-way radios.

Crisis plans are aligned with local emergency management & first responders.

Accountability procedures are in place for all students, faculty & staff.

9 crisis drills are performed annually based on the requirements set forth by the legislature and the State of Kansas Fire Marshal.

We have audits performed annually by Catholic Mutual Group, the Ellis County Health Department, and the City of Hays Fire Department.

The Crisis Team meets quarterly to discuss the ever-changing concerns that deal with ensuring our school is a safe and secure environment.

The safety coordinator trains on Salina Diocese safety requirements annually.

Faculty & staff are trained on first aid and CPR measures annually.

The students are trained on Child Lures Prevention, Think First & Stay Safe annually.

Volunteers are trained through the Safe Environment Training program before ministering to our students.

Before transporting our students to a field trip, volunteers are trained through the Defensive Driving Curriculum and complete paperwork required by the Diocese of Salina.
