THE CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd was introduced to Holy Family Elementary in August of 2023 when the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Wichita joined our faculty & staff team. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a religious experience involving children and adults. It focuses on childhood values such as the contemplation and enjoyment of God. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is experienced in an area called the Atrium.

The Atrium is a place for religious life, community, and worship, not a classroom for instruction. It is an environment geared towards tangible hands-on learning and internal dialogue. It is designed to foster the relationship between God and the child. Children are encouraged to converse with God, in recollection and silence. The aim is for children to experience peace of mind and control of body.

Atrium time begins with a scripture reading, followed by discussion and prayer. The children take what they have learned and disperse to a tangible hands-on area of their choice. They work with the materials as they reflect on the scripture and experience quiet time with God.

Preschool through 3rd-grade students visit the Atrium once a week. Sister guides the students through their Atrium time.
