BULLYING

Holy Family Elementary views bullying as unchristian-like behavior and we do not tolerate it. We define bullying as repeatedly hurting another individual…

…physically-(pushing, hitting, kicking, spitting, or any other use of violence, taking items from, forcing to do something unwillingly, etc.)

…verbally (teasing, name-calling, sarcasm, threatening, spreading rumors, etc.)

…indirectly (excluding, tormenting, using hurtful gestures, making hurtful written comments, etc.)

…cyber (using technology to hurt others through any communication device such as e-mail, cell phone, camera, chat rooms, text messaging, websites, etc.)

…deliberate and sustained

…intended to isolate, hurt, or humiliate another

…unprovoked

The goal is to ensure that all students experience a safe, Christian environment that is conducive to learning. The following steps will be taken when dealing with bullying incidents…

…the incident must be dealt with immediately by the faculty or staff member on duty.

…the severity of the incident will dictate who gets involved beyond the immediate dealing of it. Faculty, staff, or students who witness the incident, the homeroom teacher, counselor, principal, or parents may all be asked to help resolve the incident.

…students engaging in bullying behavior will be disciplined according to the school discipline policy.

Staff members of Holy Family Elementary should…

…remain alert to signs of bullying and act promptly and firmly against it.

…encourage all students to refrain from bullying behavior and encourage them to report any bullying behaviors they witness

…offer support to the student experiencing the bullying by reporting any incidents to the principal, faculty, or staff member on duty.

Parents of Holy Family Elementary students should…

…report concerns of bullying behavior to your child’s teacher or the principal as soon as possible.

…support the school’s anti-bullying policy and actively encourage your child to avoid bullying behavior.

Students of Catholic Schools should…

…report any acts of bullying to the principal or teacher on duty at the time of the incident.

…stand up for the student being bullied, refrain from joining in bullying behavior, and treat others with the respect and dignity they deserve.
