Holy Family Elementary celebrated Chili Supper & Catholic Schools Week from January 28th to February 2nd. This was a busy week for us, full of activities that celebrate all things Catholic schools.

On Sunday, we celebrated our “Parishes” by attending Mass at our local parishes. Masses were filled with intentions for the success of our Catholic schools. We prayed for the parishes & parishioners who support us through Stewardship and give so willingly of their time, talent, and treasure.   We prayed for our Catholic school families who said yes to a Catholic education for their child/children. We prayed for the faculty & staff who give selflessly to the students of HFE. We prayed for the students and asked them to fulfill our mission by being  “Christ to One Another.”

Mass was followed by our annual Chili Supper & Bazaar. This event was open to the public and to our Catholic school families. There were chili & chicken sandwiches, along with homemade desserts. The posters at the book fair were a huge hit with the students this year. People won big in the cake walk & bingo room. The students went wild in the game room, winning prizes for their efforts. Classrooms provided silent auction baskets for guests to bid on and the raffles had made some big winners. And the classroom pigs were full thanks to the generous donations of our parents & students. The Chili Supper committee worked hard for months to put on this fundraiser event for the school. They did an amazing job making sure all the pieces ran smoothly.

On Monday, we celebrated the “nation.” The students wore their red, white, & blue and held a prayer service for our nation & its leaders. We had several local first responders join the students for lunch. The students also participated in the Spelling Bee.

On Tuesday, we celebrated our “faculty & staff.” The faculty & staff were treated to an amazing Taco Bar lunch, provided by the Appreciation Committee. The students participated in the Geography Bee.

On Wednesday, we celebrated the “students.” The students wore their favorite team gear. They participated in prayer circle family rotation activities. They made Valentine’s posters and cards for the nursing homes while enjoying a snack mix. Some students presented their talents to the student body at our annual Talent Show. We heard jokes, listened to music, and watched dances.

On Thursday, we celebrated “vocations.” After morning Mass, the boys and girls separated and went with either Fr. Nick or the Sisters to listen to them talk about their faith journeys. A few of the priests joined us for lunch. The students dressed like Saints and we had a Saint Parade.

On Friday, we celebrated our “community.” Our students gathered in their prayer circle families for the First Friday Prayer Service. Then we headed to Thomas More Prep-Marian Jr./Sr. High School Fieldhouse for a joint Mass with TMP, Sacred Heart of Plainville, and St. Mary’s of Ellis. Our students split up and joined the TMP students in groups for lunch, a physical activity in the Fieldhouse, and to watch the Pop Singers. Students were treated to an early release day.
