Congratulations to the HFE spelling bee contestants and winners! The top 4 move onto the county spelling bee.
1st 🥇 Colby Schmeidler
2nd 🥈 Kaymbree Staab
3rd 🥉 Hailey Robben
4th 🏆 Alex Unrein
Alternate Mason Rozean
It takes great courage to spell in front of the whole school. We are proud of all of our contestants!
Fun facts: we had a brother (Colby)and sister (Kayla), twin brothers (Alex and Braden), and two cousins (Mason and Hayden) competing against each other. While all were highly competitive, they demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship!
Thank you to our committee that makes this possible each year- Mrs. Lori Flax, Mrs. Teresa Schrant, Mrs. Cristy Dinkel, and Mrs. Paula Beck. Our student gallery was especially impressive while they cheered on their classmates!

Holy Family Elementary will not have school tomorrow, Thursday 1/6, due to the predicted frigid wind chills and snow. Stay warm and safe!

Reminder: today is a half day of school at HFE, and students will dismiss at 11:00. There will be no lunch, After School Care, or bus services today. The office will close following dismissal for our staff Christmas luncheon. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Please be aware that there is a funeral at 10:00 am at IHM today, December 17. Refrain from parking in the north church parking lot. School dismissal will take place as usual and will begin at 10:55 am to avoid interference with the funeral procession.
Thank you for a fast and successful first semester! We wish all of our HFE families a safe and healthy break!

There will be NO After School Care or bus services today at Holy Family. Thank you for your understanding.

HFE students will dismiss early today at 2:15pm due to no power at school. Our phones are also down. TMP will remain in session, but if you need an older child to pick up a younger sibling, please call the land line to TMP to dismiss them. All TMP practices are cancelled today. Currently TMP phones are working. Thank you.

Reminder: Wednesday is Mary's Baby Shower at HFE. Students are encouraged to bring a simple wrapped baby gift. Tuesday evening will be busy with Christmas programs, so just a little heads-up if you have not already prepared. Students will unwrap their gift with their class before Catholic Charities picks up the items for mothers and babies in need. Thank you!

Today is the LAST DAY to place orders for HFE Bucks if you are needing PHYSICAL gift cards in hand before we close for Christmas Break next Friday. If you are needing physical gift cards for stocking stuffers or gifts, head to the RaiseRight app, or you can contact Kayla Lonnon and the HFE Bucks committee! Have older kids or company coming home for the holidays? Stock up on their favorite local Hays eateries (Taco Shop, Gella's, Thirsty's, The Q -- and many more!) From Cerv's and Casey's to Walmart and Home Depot, and everything in between, all of your favorite restaurants and shops galore, we've got you covered for all of your holiday shopping, eating, entertaining and gift-giving needs! Why not earn more money back toward your family's enrollment fees as you do your shopping? Thanks for your continued support of this on-going fundraiser for Holy Family!

Tomorrow, December 8th is our school Arby's Fundraising Day! Save yourself the cooking and planning and stop by Arby's with your loved ones for lunch or dinner tomorrow to support Holy Family! HFE will receive 20% of the proceeds between 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., but you MUST mention HFE when you order -- help us spread the word! Thanks for supporting our school in this way!

The fourth grade Computer classes have been busy working on their November STEM project, “Balloons Over Broadway”. We began by listening to the book “Balloons Over Broadway” which tells the true story of Tony Sarg. Sarg was a European puppeteer who came to New York and created displays for the windows at Macy’s. He later was asked to use his puppets in a Christmas parade. Fearing people wouldn’t be able to see his highly animated puppets, he worked to develop ones that could be elevated and controlled from underneath. This concept is still used today. We then learned about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. We also investigated how helium works. The students then partnered up to research an idea for their balloon. After deciding on their balloon theme they designed a sketch and developed a budget detailing everything they would need to create their design. The last step involved creating their balloon masterpieces. Just in time for the annual parade!
